Hello Twinkly Ones. Thank you for stopping in to my spot on Kellyn's blog tour for At Her Fingertips....I hope you enjoy her interview.
Don't forget to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway too...
On to the interview questions:
1. How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Since The Dressmaker's Secret came out, I've definitely had to spend more time on things like marketing, blog/website design, and all those other little details which gives me less time for writing. ;)
The biggest change it's made is probably the criticism. Now people review my books ... and I get an idea as to what the readers out there think! With this knowledge, I can work to improve my future books.
2. What authors did you dislike at first but grew into?
I have a distinct memory of picking up C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe when I was a little girl, starting to read it, and then growing bored rather quickly. I was very small then! Now it's one of my favorites - almost anything by C.S. Lewis is, in fact. :)
I also struggled with L.M. Montgomery and Martha Finley. It took me a while to be convinced that anything by them was worth reading. :P
3. How do you select the names of your characters?
Honestly, it's mostly just random choice? Sometimes I'll change a character later, but a lot of characters kept their placeholder names - or something similar to their "placeholder names". Alice went from Alise to Alicia to Alice. This was back when she was French, though. Ivy used to be Yvette at that point.
I also like to think about what the characters' parents would have named their child - or whoever it was who named the character, that is.
4. What was your hardest scene to write?
Basically any scene with Gibson Ashfield was hard. The hardest was the one in the garden. A lot of tact had to go into that one, let me tell you ...!
5. Do you Google yourself?
I just did! That was a little scary - I can't believe how many articles and other things there are. And it would seem that Google as records it whenever I comment on a post. Okay then, Google ... that's a little creepy ...
6. What is your writing Kryptonite?
Point of view, probably ... I struggle to write a very deep third person. Thankfully, my beta-readers gave me some help with it as well as some of my writing buddies. And I've been paying close attention. There shall be no more head-hopping!
Thank you so much Kellyn!
At Her Fingertips
Alice Knight is looking forward to her debut as it means she will be able to carry out her plan. She will have her first Season in London, she will meet her husband, and she will marry him. However, Alice struggles to make her feelings reconcile with her goals.
Alice is sure that, if she can only cling to her plans, she will manage without help from anyone — including God. A childhood friend returning unexpectedly, a charming gentleman who is not all he should be, and an American author with strange ideas about life all make her question the plan.
With the life she longs for at her fingertips, can Alice grasp it?
